Irene was a botananist who tended plants on the mini-moon of Delphi. She had lived there alone and for twenty years had nurtured the beautiful Pink Cichorium. When its survival (and hers), was threatened by the arrival of man-eating weeds, she sent a distress call that was answered by the Doctor. In line with Irene’s wishes, the Doctor left Irene behind to defend her home but agreed to re-house her Pink Cichorium in the fields of Centauri-Beta.
