Tarak was a member of Kalmar's rebellion against the Three Who Rule.
Tarak was a former guard in the castle. He volunteered to disguise himself as a guard to search the tower for the Fourth Doctor and Romana II. He found them and went with Romana to fetch Adric, but was killed by Zargo. Camilla refused to drink his blood, declaring the blood of the dead stale. (TV: State of Decay)
After the rebels claimed victory, they decided to honour Tarak with a state funeral. Following much discussion, it was decided that a column would be most befitting to honour him. (PROSE: The Eight Doctors)
