After the Abandonment of Mars, the Ice Warriors sent out eleven World-Ships to find a new homeland for the species. However, High Marshal Kryss and the World-Ship that Kryss was captain of, the lead vessel, was separated from the rest of the flotilla, with communication between the vessels being lost due to the cosmic storm known as the Great Desolatrix; Kryss' World-Ship crash landed, and Kryss fought off those who meant to take it from him for seven days, until he was captured by the Sycorax, and was taken to an asteroid. Later, after Kryss fought Leela in the Cage, until she calmed him down and he begged for death, the rest of the fleets arrived at the asteroid, due to the Fourth Doctor contacting them through the long-range comms. At the asteroid, the captains of World-Ships Three, Four, and Six spoke to Kryss through the speakers around the Cage, and Kryss was rescued. (PROSE: Red Planet)
