Bernice Summerfield and the Library of Books was the ninth story in the Bernice Summerfield anthology Missing Adventures. It was written by Andrew Cartmel.

Summary

Benny follows an expedition to an underground library in Monte Cristo, 100 miles out from Rome. The group discovers that reading the books in this archaic collection "is guaranteed to have an impact," so states an inscription in the ancient halls. However, upon delving into these tomes, the readers fall victim to violent pangs of behaviour evoked by the writing that betray their sanity and reasoning — some of which might stir up deathly results.
