Ming the Merciless' species had large foreheads, triangular eyebrows, pointed ears, sharp noses, deep brow ridges, gaunt cheeks, thin mouths, and long fingers. They sometimes wore jumpsuits with thin belts around their waists.
One of these aliens was a guest at the Dalek Dome. They were near the Doctor's TARDIS when it materialized, and were cleared from the area by a gorilla guard. (COMIC: Liberation of the Daleks)
Behind the scenes
- These aliens come from the planet Mongo.
- The large-headed, bald, pointy-eared designs for Ming the Merciless' species featured in the first Flash Gordon comics. Many of the reference images used by artists at World Distributors (Manchester), Ltd were evidently from Flash Gordon comics, leading to similar aliens appearing in the Doctor Who annuals, including examples of Ming the Merciless' species:
- The Rostrow in Mission for Duh resemble a softer version of Ming's people. Duh even wears a similar jumpsuit and belt, and in one panel has similarly arched eyebrows.
- An alien with a head and face like Ming the Merciless' species appears in the illustration Questions of Who in the Doctor Who Annual 1984.
