New Memphis
New Memphis was an Earth colony, established prior to 2479 (most probably in the middle of 24th century). It was well known for its large spaceport, known as Elvis the King Spaceport and its largest settlement, New Memphis.
Astronomical Data
New Mephis was barren and largely uninhabited. All of the cities were located on one island and 98% of the planet was undeveloped. Rain was common on the planet, but it was unknown if this was because of the pollution of New Mephis City or for natural reasons. (NSA: Judgement of the Judoon)
History
Before humanity arrived, New Memphis was an uninhabited planetoid of little interest to anyone. However, the government of Earth soon showed interest in the planetoid because it was close to a major hyperspace nexus point. Thus, a refuelling station was established to assist the traffic crossing that point, coming from at least a hundred different star systems.
Over the course of a hundred years, the refuelling station became more permanent, becoming the Elvis the King Spaceport. Soon, a permanent population begun to establish itself and the city state of New Memphis was established outside of the spaceport. The spaceport had ten terminals at full working capacity and a further two shut down pending further notice. In 2479, work started on the 13th terminal. One of the funders, Derek Salter, was having financial problems, and tried to delay production. Eventually, he hired Uncle to plant bombs in the terminal, planning to blow it up for the insurance.
In 2487, the Invisible Assassin was bought by Uncle in order to kill The Widow. The Judoon and then the Doctor caught wind of this and investigated the planet. Working with Nikki Jupiter and Rok Ma, the Doctor was able to track down the Invisible Assassin, but it was stolen by the Widow's agents. When Rok Ma went to warn her it was a virus, he was sent back with it and captured by Uncle, then strapped to one of the bombs. The Judoon were sent in to disarm the bombs, while Uncle and the Widow were both accidentally killed when Uncle was checking to see if the Invisible Assassin was working. Following this, Derek Salter was found and arrested and Roka Ma decided to stay and help Nikki. (NSA: Judgement of the Judoon)
