Batman was the name used by an incarnation of the Doctor.
Batman worked alone as a superhero for a time in New York City. After the Fifth Doctor landed his TARDIS on Madison Avenue and left it unlocked, Batman entered with an array of other superheroes that included Spider-Man and Superman. He encountered the Doctor upon his return to his ship who angrily proclaimed that the experience had taught him never to land in the city during a crimewave. (NOTVALID: Doctor Who? 64)
Batman was one of the possibilities for the titular role in Doctor Who: The Movie along with several other candidates, with a bewildered Seventh Doctor watching the assembly of his possible regenerations. According to him, the Cybermen had taken over Gotham City. As the first course of action he instructed an unseen Ace to hurry to the who-poles so they could both help defeat the invasion.
