Rose garden (The Three Doctors)
The Doctor's rose garden or The Doctor's garden, to forgo the need for a dab term. Maybe even The Garden could be considered.
Talk about it here.
A vast rose garden, by some accounts called the Garden, (PROSE: The Massacre, Roses) was maintained by the Doctor in their early life. (PROSE: The Five Doctors, Lungbarrow, et al.)
The Other grew a garden of Time's roses at the highest peak of the Citadel. He and Rassilon watched Omega's sacrifice from the garden when the light of the supernova finally reached Gallifrey. The Other left his garden to Rassilon, commenting that it was "plagued by scissor bugs." (PROSE: Lungbarrow)
After his encounter with Mavic Chen, (PROSE: Roses, TV: The Daleks' Master Plan) the First Doctor visited a rose garden to say farewell to his body and personality and prepare for regeneration. He enjoyed pruning his roses with secateurs and caring for his bees. (PROSE: The Five Doctors) This rest was interrupted when he was captured by Borusa. (TV: The Five Doctors)
At another time, the Time Lords summoned the First Doctor from a garden of white roses to guide his two next incarnations in defeating Omega, (TV: The Three Doctors) which Steven and Vicki witnessed from the vicinity of the TARDIS as the Doctor vanishing before their eyes. (PROSE: The Empire of Glass)
In Auld Mortality's universe, the Possibility Tree grew in the Doctor's rose garden. (AUDIO: Auld Mortality)
Behind the scenes
- A promotional image for The Three Doctors depicted the three Doctors together in a garden, but this scene did not appear in the actual episode.
- In the notes of Lungbarrow, Marc Platt pointed out that the Other's rose garden was "reminiscent" of the one seen in The Three Doctors and The Five Doctors, and stated that it "reappears" as the Doctor's imaginary rose garden in Auld Mortality.
