Victory on Earth Day, which could be shortened to VE Day, was an annual event on 9 May marking the victory of human resistance fighters against the Dalek invasion of Earth in 2164. Its name and abbreviation bore a striking resemblence to Victory in Europe Day, which could also be shortened to 'VE Day' (PROSE: Time Traveller's Diary)
