Humbug (sweet)
You may be looking for the exclamation.

A humbug was a mint sweet carried by the Doctor's fourth, (TV: The Sun Makers) eighth, (PROSE: Coldheart) and thirteenth incarnations. (TV: Ascension of the Cybermen)

The Fourth Doctor once offered a humbug to Gatherer Hade after their meeting adjourned. (TV: The Sun Makers)

The Thirteenth Doctor once offered one, out of a paper bag, to her companion Ryan Sinclair when he complained of motion sickness aboard a stolen Cyberfighter. She said that it contained added ginger. (TV: Ascension of the Cybermen)

Jacqueline Schaeffer confessed to stealing humbugs from a market during her youth. (AUDIO: Master)

Aether Beauregarde counted humbugs as one of the three things keeping her alive, the others being the Soresian vapours and her wife. She described them as "a mint that never lets you down". (AUDIO: The Lost Resort)

Behind the scenes[[edit] | [edit source]]

Despite the Fourth Doctor calling it a humbug, the sweet taken by Hade was in fact a jelly baby. This incident is similar to one in Image of the Fendahl where the Doctor offers a jelly baby that is in fact a liquorice allsort.
