Sons of the Desert was a movie that starred Laurel and Hardy. It involved a plot in which Stan Laurel was caught by his wife. Bernice Summerfield enjoyed the film and compared the Seventh Doctor's look to that of Laurel's appearance, which she described as a "‘but aren’t you enjoying yourself" look. Sons of the Desert is also the name of a Laurel and Hardy appreciation society, which is known for organising international conventions dedicated to the comedy duo. While the group itself has not been mentioned in the DWU, the novel The Pit does depict the Doctor and Bernice Summerfield attending such a convention.
