Trial of Danger was a Stingray comic printed in TV Century 21 in 1967.

The story crossed over with the Doctor Who universe by mentioning the location of Unity City, first introduced in The Daleks comic story Duel of the Daleks.

Characters

Worldbuilding

  • "Professor Halliwell" arrives from Unity City a week earlier than expected, purportedly to ensure that he sees only Stingray's normal routine patrols.
  • One of Halliwell's tests involves Tempest making a 180 degree turn at rate six to check stability and drift.
  • Shore puts Tempest on a seventy-two hour medical check-up which, if he fails, will mean the end of his service with the WASPs.
  • Newly in command of Stingray, Fisher attempts to perform an emergency test dive at rate four as instructed but soon finds the craft accelerating uncontrollably. He then tries to contact Marineville for help only to discover the radio dead.
  • Halliwell and Masters threaten harm to Marina if Phones and Fisher do not put on pressure suits and abandon Stingray.
  • Halliwell uses a "simple interference device" to jam Stingray's controls.

Story notes

  • This marked the final Stingray story to crossover with the Doctor Who universe, though elements originating from Stingray would continue to appear in other crossovers for some time.
  • Titan is stated to be mastermind of the plan to gain possession of Stingray by impersonating World Government officials but he is only mentioned, with his surface agents of Halliwell and Masters and their Terror Fish escort constituting the extent of Titan's physical presence in the story.
