A hammer and sickle was a communist symbol. It resembled a crossed hammer and sickle typically in yellow on a red background.

It was the emblem of the Soviet Union (COMIC: Target Practice) and was present on their flag. (TV: Before the Flood)

A map of the Soviet Union was seen on a screen inside the Operations Room at Area 51. Superimposed on the map was a hammer and sickle. (TV: Dreamland)

Among the patches Ace wore on her black bomber jacket was a star-shaped patch with the Soviet hammer and sickle. (TV: Dragonfire - Survival etc.) When this was noticed by Captain Sorin, Ace informed him that it was bought cheap in a market.
