Novelisation

  • This novelisation is based on the original television serial generally referred to as DW: Galaxy 4 which included individual episode titles and was shown from 11th September 1965 and written by William Emms.
  • The cover and information shown on the rightx is for the original Target novel and featured the artwork of Andrew Skilleter. (See below for information on other UK and international editions which published with a different cover).

Publisher's summary

Following a skirmish in deep space, two alien spacecraft have crash landed on a barren planet in Galaxy Four.
The Drahvins are a race of beautiful females, led by the imperious Maaga. The Rills are hideous tusked monstrosities, accompanied by their robotic servants, the Chumblies.
When the Doctor arrives, he discovers that the planet will explode in two days’ time. The Drahvins desperately ask for his help in escaping the planet and the belligerent Rills.
But things are not always as they seem…

Deviations from televised story

  • The First Doctor hints he is not in his first incarnation by saying 'It is hard to find a good body'. This however would be a contradiction of later stories, and also not in the televised episode as the concept of regeneration had not yet been introduced.
  • He also mentions his second heart, another thing not introduced until DW: Spearhead from Space, and also in the story DW: The Edge of Destruction, Ian checks the Doctor's pulse and doesn't notice a second heart, implying he only has one, other stories would suggest that the Doctor grew his second heart after regenerating for the first time. MA: The Man in the Velvet Mask.
