Though not specified in-story, this is likely a reference to The Campbell Playhouse, which is what Mercury Theatre of the Air was renamed in December 1938. Note, however, that in the real world Campbell didn't begin sponsoring Welles' programme until several months after his War of the Worlds broadcast.
