The Tempest - A Work in Progress is the ninth story in The Shakespeare Notebooks, featuring the Tenth Doctor.

Summary[[edit] | [edit source]]

This extract appears to comprise Shakespeare's working notes for The Tempest. However, the notes appear to be by two different writers - the different handwriting distinguished here by the use of italic text for the author generally acknowledged not to be Shakespeare.

For obvious reasons, this extract more than any other has been cited by sceptics as anachronistic proof that the Notebooks are not genuine.

Characters[[edit] | [edit source]]

Worldbuilding[[edit] | [edit source]]

  • The Doctor and his companion, Donna Noble, are preoccupied with "dinosaur business" while the Doctor is helping Shakespeare.
  • The Doctor gives Shakespeare a Forbidden Planet DVD, and a Battery-powered Blu-ray player to watch it on.
  • Among the ideas scratched out by Shakespeare are references to black smoke and a mysterious hatch -- both elements of another island-based fantasy story, the TV series Lost.
