Millennium Dome

The Millennium Dome, also known as the London Dome, (TV: The Eclipse of the Korven [+]Loading...["The Eclipse of the Korven (TV story)"]) was a well-known landmark in London. (PROSE: Verdigris) It was located in the borough of Greenwich.[nb 1]

History[[edit] | [edit source]]

During a visit to the 1970s, Tom noted that the Millennium Dome hadn't been built yet. (PROSE: Verdigris)

It was still under construction in 1998. UNIT captured the Chuchuna on the site. (AUDIO: Rogue State)

When Ianto Jones joined Torchwood One in 2005, (AUDIO: New Girl) one of his first jobs was at the Millenium Dome, where he saw what was sealed beneath it. The memory made him shudder for years after. (PROSE: Almost Perfect)

In 2007, Little Green Storage was located under the Millennium Dome. (PROSE: Borrowed Time)

In 2008, Cybermen who survived the Battle of Canary Wharf made their base in the empty dome. (PROSE: Made of Steel)

In 2050, Inspector Thorne of the Department used the dome as a location for a gateway connected to the Space-Time Manipulator located in Gryffen Manor; he also kept Project Trojan there. K9 Mark 2 confronted him there after he activated his regeneration unit. Alistair Gryffen was forced to use the temporal stabiliser when a strange phenomenon in the STM threatened the Earth. This allowed the vanguard of the Korven Pan-Dimensional Army, led by Lomax, to come through. Gryffen later defeated his agoraphobia, headed to the dome and shouted out the STM's voice-activated termination code, resulting in the STM being destroyed, taking the Korven invaders with it. K9 was attacked by Trojan but managed to defeat him, which also resulted in Thorne's death. (TV: The Eclipse of the Korven)

In their annual meeting on 10 January 2540, the Historical Monuments Preservation Society discussed plans to preserve, amongst others, the Millennium Dome. (PROSE: Time Traveller's Diary)

Other realities[[edit] | [edit source]]

Pete's World[[edit] | [edit source]]

A building which resembled the Millennium Dome from the Doctor's universe existed in London (TV: Rise of the Cybermen [+]Loading...["Rise of the Cybermen (TV story)"]) of Pete's World. (TV: Doomsday [+]Loading...["Doomsday (TV story)"], etc.) It was in a similar location to its counterpart. (TV: Rise of the Cybermen [+]Loading...["Rise of the Cybermen (TV story)"])

Behind the scenes[[edit] | [edit source]]

As a book published in March 2007, three months before the Dome reopened as The O2 entertainment complex and (supposedly) set in the following year, Made of Steel suggests a significant difference in the Dome's development in the Doctor Who universe after the original 1999-2000 attraction, aside from being a Cyberman base.

Footnotes[[edit] | [edit source]]

  1. The location of the Tower Hamlets and Greenwich on Mr Smith's map. (TV: Revenge of the Slitheen)
Children of Earth: Day Two [+]Loading...["Children of Earth: Day Two (TV story)"] and The Eleventh Hour [+]Loading...["The Eleventh Hour (TV story)"] show the Millennium Dome to be located on a peninsula close to Canary Wharf. Given that we know Canary Wharf is located in the borough of Tower Hamlets, and aligning the River Thames, this would place the Millennium Dome in the borough of Greenwich as per the map from Revenge of the Slitheen [+]Loading...["Revenge of the Slitheen (TV story)"].
