Nicholas Smith (5 March 1934-6 December 2015) played Wells in the Doctor Who television story The Dalek Invasion of Earth.

It was his first speaking role, having previously worked as an extra, and he decided to play Wells as a farmer with a West Country accent. (DOC: Future Memories)
