In saying that status should be accompanied by year, what happens if that particular story took place has no definitive year setting?

I remember that not too long ago, each UNIT operator had a link to his/her own page, even those who only appeared in one story. Then half of them appear to have gone red (i.e. been deleted). Was that the case, or...?
