Keir Hardie

Keir Hardie was a British socialist politician in the early 20th century.

Biography

In 1906, Hardie was a Member of Parliament. Lawrence Grainger encountered him at the Houses of Parliament. Hardie greeted Grainger with a "charming smile" and told him to give his regards to Grainger's wife, Mary, noting that she was seen at "one of Mrs Pankhurt's meetings". Grainger wished him farewell, but privately despised Hardie. (PROSE: Forgotten [+]Loading...["Forgotten (short story)"])

Lawrence Grainger considered Hardie a "socialist idiot", sometimes ranting about him while at home. (PROSE: Prologue to The Centenarian [+]Loading...["Prologue to The Centenarian (short story)"])

Behind the scenes

In 1906, Keir Hardie was the founding leader of the Labour Party, although this is unstated.
