The Hardwicke Elixir was the nickname given to the anti-aging drug developed by Jim Hardwicke. It took two hours to take effect, after which the subject would enter a death-like state of unconsciousness for forty years, during which the body would be re-energized and the skin replaced. It was only effective on humans.

The elixir was given to eight scientists, whose bodies were laid to rest inside a specially built mausoleum. One of the scientists, and later Jim himself, were abducted by the Daleks, who wanted to use the elixir on the people of Earth, allowing them to invade with no resistance. Jim instead supplied them with a weakened version of the elixir, which only lasted a few weeks, after which the people awoke and destroyed the invaders. Jim took some of the real elixir, preventing the Daleks from forcing him to make more. (PROSE: The Living Death [+]Loading...["The Living Death (short story)"])
