The Thing was a 1982 science fiction film directed by John Carpenter and starring Kurt Russell. (TV: Empress of Mars [+]Loading...["Empress of Mars (TV story)"])

Bill thought the Twelfth Doctor would enjoy this film, and it came to mind when they explored underground tunnels on Mars. The Doctor seemed to have never heard of The Thing, (TV: Empress of Mars) though the Eleventh Doctor referred to the film when Amy Pond asked him if he had seen The Thing, though he also wondered if she meant the "Howard Hawks Thing-y with the walking carrot".
