Mr Borage worked at The Gazette in the 1950s. He was ordered by Bertie de Souza to waylay any journalists who came to the newspaper looking into the Ascension and keep them from finding out about the British government's Ascension camps. When Gideon Lyme visited him, Mr Borage hired him and attempted to alert de Souza, instead reaching Lizbeth Hayhoe who ordered him to afford Lyme every access.
