The eye-screen was a red screen which served as the "eyes" of the K9 models. (PROSE: Doctor Who and the Invisible Enemy [+]Loading...["Doctor Who and the Invisible Enemy (novelisation)"]) It was a multi wavelength optical spectrum sensor which also featured a retractable data-com probe. (PROSE: The Visual Dictionary [+]Loading...["The Visual Dictionary (2007 reference book)"]) The K9 Mark 2 model following K9 Mark I's regeneration did not sport a visible probe on his eye-screen. (TV: Regeneration [+]Loading...["Regeneration (TV story)"])

When K9 spoke, the eye-screen would light up, (TV: School Reunion [+]Loading...["School Reunion (TV story)"]) not unlike the luminosity dischargers of the Daleks. (TV: The Daleks [+]Loading...["The Daleks (TV story)"]) This was not the case for the K9 Mark 2 model, who instead had a series of blue lights across the lower half of his face that would light up when he spoke. (TV: Regeneration [+]Loading...["Regeneration (TV story)"])

KIT-10, the equivalent of K9 in a parallel universe, had a similar screen and probe that were coloured green. (PROSE: "What If K-9 Was a CAT?" [+]Part of Time Warped!, Loading...{"namedpart":"What If K-9 Was a CAT?","1":"Time Warped! (feature)"})
