In Earth-33⅓, John Nathan-Turner was given a BBC cheque by DG to spend on special effects for Doctor Who. Nathan-Turner considered the amount "far too much money" to spend on solely that aspect of production, an eventuality that was considered "unlikely" in the wider history of the programme.
