2059 was a year of great importance to the Doctor, Rani Chandra, and Human space travel.
November
- 21st November - The Doctor, travelling randomly, arrives on Mars. Bowie Base One, the first long-term human outpost on Mars is destroyed 17 months into its mission, due to an attempted invasion by The Flood which forces commanding officer Captain Adelaide Brooke to trigger a nuclear self-destruct advice. Brooke, along with crewmembers Yuri Kerenski and Mia Bennett, are rescued by the Doctor, who violates the Laws of Time in doing so, as the destruction of Bowie Base One is a fixed point in time. Although Kerenski and Bennett return to their lives on Earth, Brooke commits suicide soon after being returned to Earth. Immediately thereafter, the Doctor receives a communication from Ood Sigma. but ignores the call and flies off in procrastination. (DW: The Waters of Mars)
- At some point after 21st November, Yuri Kerenski and Mia Bennett talk to the media about their escape from Mars, which results in media attention being given to the Doctor as an almost "mythical" individual. (DW: The Waters of Mars)
Unspecified
- The Doctor spends some time with the Flisk Armada aboard the medical frigate Tahala. (NSA: Snowglobe 7).
- By this time, the Cybermen, Daleks and other alien races are common knowledge to Humans. (SJA: The Mad Woman in the Attic)
- Susie Fontana Brooke is born. (DW: The Waters of Mars) Date is supposition given that Susie is still an infant on 21st November.
- Climate Change and oil shortages have had disastrous effects on the UK.
- Rani Chandra's "natural" timeline was restored. Her life changed from being a lonely figure in the attic of 13 Bannerman Road, to being its sociable occupant, with a wide circle of family and friends. For reasons unclear, she had either bought or inherited Sarah Jane Smith's house. In this year, she and Luke Smith visited Maria Jackson in America. (SJA: The Mad Woman in the Attic)
Alternate timelines
- Rani Chandra, now the mad woman of Bannerman Road, tells the story of how she met Eve to Adam Lloyd. He overwrites this version of history. (SJA: The Mad Woman in the Attic).
- Prior to the Doctor's interference, Earth history recorded that Bowie Base One was destroyed on Mars on 21st November with the loss of all hands, including Captain Adelaide Brooke, Yuri Kerenski and Mia Bennett. Due to the Doctor's actions, history now records that the three were transported to Earth; Kerenski and Bennett survived, but Brooke committed suicide, dying on Earth (DW: The Waters of Mars)
