A graphic designer assembles art created by the graphic artist together to create a design for a screen display or sign, within a story. They use images, typography or motion graphics to deliver this content.

Bernard Lodge was the first ever graphic designer for Doctor Who, on TV: "An Unearthly Child", though he went uncredited. Other graphic designers who worked in the classic era included Sid Sutton for the eras of Peter Davison and Colin Baker, and Oliver Elmes for the Sylvester McCoy era.

In the modern era of Doctor Who, the post of graphic designer has largely been filled by Chris Lees in the Matt Smith era, Nina Dunn in the Peter Capaldi era, and Stephen Fielding in the Jodie Whittaker era. Torchwood credited James North during Children of Earth, and Julian Nix worked on An Adventure in Space and Time.

Those who specialise in motion graphics are sometimes credited more specifically as motion graphic designers.
