Doctor Who - The Ninth Doctor[1] was a short story written by Paul Cornell to provide backstory for the version of the Ninth Doctor portrayed by Richard E Grant.

The short story was originally released as part of a document entitled Doctor Who - The Ninth Doctor to be distributed to any potential writers for the then-presumed ongoing series of webcast adventures. On 22 August 2013, it was officially reprinted in DWM 464 as part of the Way Back feature about the multiple Ninth Doctors.

Plot[[edit] | [edit source]]

The Ninth Doctor, now retired on Gallifrey, loses the woman he loves when all the Time Lords are killed by an alien race. The alien race are defeated by the Doctor and the Master — although the Master's "final physical body" was destroyed in the process.

The Doctor builds a new robot body for the Master, and the Time Lords, who have retreated into the Matrix following their destruction, continue to send the Doctor off on dangerous missions.
