The National Television Awards aired the mini-episode Dermot and the Doctor.

Actor David Tennant won the "Outstanding Drama Performance" award on 29 October 2008 at the 14th National Television Awards for his work on Doctor Who. It was in his acceptance speech that he announced he would be leaving the programme as the Tenth Doctor following the 2009 Specials.

Matt Smith and the show itself both won awards at the 19th National Television Awards, for Best Actor and Best Drama respectively.
