Ian Stuart Black (born 21 March 1915, London, died 13 October 1997, Sidmouth, Devon[1]) wrote several Doctor Who television stories. Of the three serials Black wrote for the show, The War Machines is the only one to not be completely missing.

Though born in London, Black was “a Scot through and through.”[2] Before Doctor Who, he had served as a staff writer for The Rank Organisation, which was one of the biggest film companies of its time.[3]
