The Fissure was a weakness in the structure of Skaro caused by expansions in the Ice Heart of Skaro. The Fissure spread through the strata of Skaro, piercing upwards from the Ice Heart through the Morass, Abyss of Death, Depths of Unknown, Stratum of Screaming Winds, Zone of Eternal Dark, and almost entirely through the Cellular Layer to just below the planet's surface. The area where the fissure nearly surfaced was located between the Lake of Snakes and the Canyons of Terror.

In the era of the Space Security Service, the Fissure was in imminent danger of becoming an icecano by reaching the surface. (COMIC: The Dalek Trap [+]Loading...["The Dalek Trap (comic story)"]) In the era of the Anti-Dalek Force, a region of icecanos existed on the dark side of Skaro, their origin unspecified.
