- Christmas is a time for remembering all the people you never spend time with, to whom you simply send Christmas cards once a year, hoping to see them in the next. This is a time for personal reflection, during indigestion.
- Mr Colchester likes the "purple ones" in chocolate tins, of which there are "never enough".
- The Appledores are a psychic alien weapon, which reflects back humanity's insecurities.
- Mr Colchester has tries putting a word in with "Camilla" about the Appledores, to no avail.
- Mary Appledore has been making "tradwife posts" online.
- Mr Colchester hates sea shanties.
- He notes that the listener may have lost an election this year.

- The cover art features gifts labelled for McShane, Colin, Orr, Ng, Miss Hartman, and Tyler.
- Mr Colchester says that a method of dealing with the Appledores is "super easy; barely an inconvenience". Writer James Goss confirmed this as a reference to the popular webseries Pitch Meeting.[1]
