The Preachers

From Tardis Wiki, the free Doctor Who reference

The Preachers were an underground organisation in Pete's World dedicated to the downfall of John Lumic's Cybus Industries, and Lumic's creation, the Cybermen.

Distinguishing signs and equipment

The Preachers wore black paramilitary coveralls and traveled in a blue van. Their emblem looked like a circled P. (DW: Rise of the Cybermen) When they traveled to the Doctor's universe, they also carried large guns. They also possessed large medallions allowing them to cross between their universe and the Doctor's. (DW: Doomsday)

History

The Preachers were publicly known as a small-scale pressure group, dismissed by John Lumic as an irrelevance. (Cybus website)

The London cell of the Preachers included their leader Ricky Smith, Jake Simmonds and Mrs. Moore. Pete Tyler, under the codename Gemini, passed information to them covertly - an accident on his part, as he thought he was passing information to the security services. After Ricky died, his counterpart from the Doctor's universe, Mickey Smith, took his place. Mrs. Moore had also died in the meantime. (DW: Rise of the Cybermen, The Age of Steel)

Mickey Smith was able to cross back into the Doctor's universe using one of the medallions developed by the Pete's World version of the Torchwood Institute. He infiltrated Torchwood 1 disguised as lab technician investigating the Void Ship, which had emerged out of the Void. Mickey incorrectly believed contained the ultimate Cyberman leader, such as a CyberKing, however the Void Ship actually contained the Cult of Skaro. (DW: Army of Ghosts) Jake Simmonds and Pete Tyler soon followed (DW: Doomsday).

Presumably, the Preachers disbanded after the Doctor trapped Cybermen in the Void. It is also likely that they became members of Torchwood, considering that Mickey Smith was using Torchwood transdimensional technology three years later.

Other information

The Preachers' emblem, a circled "P", was seen in the Doctor's universe. It was seen as faded graffiti on rusty bins outside Bernie's flat in Cardiff (TW: Ghost Machine) and inside the present day Ritz. (TW: Captain Jack Harkness)
