Eddie Connolly was husband to Rita and father to Tommy, who lived with them and his mother-in-law in Florizel Street, Muswell Hill, North London. An ex-serviceman since the Second World War, Eddie's pride and patriotism bordered on extremism. He was scared by the changes occurring in 1950's Britain, realising they didn't fit his view of the world, which manifested itself as bullying towards his wife and his son. When the Doctor visited his home and embarrassed him before his family, he got worse and had his wife's faceless mother (who actually owned the house) removed by the police. His son described him to have become just like the fascist men he fought against, figuring out that he had been informing everyone just to protect his reputation. When Rita discovered that Eddie had done this to her mother, and other friends and neighbours, she threw him out of the house in front of other members of their family. (DW: The Idiot's Lantern)
