The Howling Halls was, according to the tenth Doctor, a place that "an Elemental Shade escaped from". (DW: Love & Monsters)

The Doctor's comments to Elton Pope implied that the Howling Halls seem to be a prison of some sort.(DW: Love & Monsters)
