Thrown at random across Space and Time, the Doctor and Amy arrive in 9th Century Sudan, where the greedy Lord Cassim is hoarding gold from the Legate of the Caliph. Notes

• This story marks the first appearance of the White Guardian and the Black Guardian in an audio play.

Continuity

• When the Doctor is talking to the Black Guardian at the beginning of the adventure, he mentions the pacts that the Guardian made with Turlough to kill him, and the ordeal he had put Turlough through in making such a deal. (DW: Mawdryn Undead)
• The Black Guardian's associate, Djini, uses a targeting lure, (a jawaki, as the Black Guardian calls it) to try and destroy the White Guardian, Prince Omar and Amy. However, the Doctor realises that just as the Guardians' powers are diminishing so are his ideas. This is exactly the same tatic that Captain Wrack used to destroy other competing ships in the race for Enlightenment. (DW: Enlightenment)
• Both items used to accomplish this task are pieces of jewellery: here it is Amy's necklace, whereas in DW: Enlightenment it is Tegan's tiara.
