Avery was a pirate captain who hid his treasure in the crypt of a church outside a small Cornish village. Captain Samuel Pike led his men in a search for the treasure. (DW: The Smugglers)
Avery was finally seen, as played by Hugh Bonneville, in the Eleventh Doctor story The Curse of the Black Spot in 2011.
