Michael Leeston-Smith

Michael Leeston-Smith, who was born in 1916, and is now in his 95th year, directed The Myth Makers. He began at Ealing Studios at the age of 16, working as a photographer and assistant sound engineer. During the Second World War, he was part of the Royal Horse Artillery.
In 1953 he became sound engineer on the mini series The Quatermass Experiment, and two years later he worked as production assistant on the sequel Quatermass II.
He started work as a director in the 1960's, with episodes of Z Cars, R3, and Doctor Who to his credit.
In 1973 he moved to South Africa.
He is the oldest livng former director of Doctor Who.
