Taron was a member of the Thal taskforce sent to Spiridon to defeat the Daleks based there. Shortly after the group had landed on Spiridon, their leader, Marat, was exterminated by the Daleks, leaving Taron to take command. When a second taskforce arrived on Spiridon, Taron was not pleased to see that his lover, Rebec, was among them, fearing for her safety. When the taskforce first met Jo Grant and the Doctor, Taron was suspicious of them, but later accepted them as allies. (DW: Planet of the Daleks)
