Consonantal shift

Consonantal shift was the concept of words changing over time.

After the Great Vampire bestowed them with long lives, Miles Sharkey, Lauren MacMillan and Anthony O'Connor lived for hundreds of years. Over time, there names became simplified to Zargo, Camilla and Aukon. (DW: State of Decay)

When Paradise Towers fell into ruin, the names of some of the groups became distrupted. The gangs of girls that roamed the corridors became known, even to themselves, as Kangs and the residents became know as Rezzies. (DW: Paradise Towers)

Behind the scenes

According to Terrance Dicks, Christopher H. Bidmead's revision of State of Decay had featured an extensive amount of speech about consonantal shift as he apparently found it fascinating. However, Dicks had it toned down. (DOC: The Vampire Lovers)
