Mrs. Wormwood was the lead Bane, second only to the Bane Mother, who served as the head of the Bubble Shock! company. She was in charge of overseeing the creation of the Archetype, who later became Luke Smith. She managed to escape the destruction of the Bubble Shock! factory.
Sarah Jane Smith noted that, in the Book of Revelations in the Bible at the end of the world a star called Wormwood will fall to Earth and poison the waters. (SJA: Invasion of the Bane)
