Land Rovers were a brand of durable motor vehicles which arose on Earth and typically used in the latter half of the 20th century and into the 21st. UNIT used them in many operations as their main methods of travel.
For instance, the Fourth Doctor seconded one from UNIT in order to track a Skarasen whilst in Scotland. (DW: Terror of the Zygons)
