2059 was a year of great importance to the Doctor, Rani Chandra, and human space travel, perhaps even the entire Universe.

November

  • 21st November - The Tenth Doctor, travelling randomly, arrived on Mars. Bowie Base One, the first long-term human outpost on Mars was destroyed 17 months into its mission, due to an attempted invasion by The Flood which forced commanding officer Captain Adelaide Brooke to trigger a nuclear self-destruct device. Brooke, along with crewmembers Yuri Kerenski and Mia Bennett, were rescued by the Doctor, who violated the Laws of Time in doing so, as the destruction of Bowie Base One was a fixed point in time. Although Kerenski and Bennett returned to their lives on Earth, Brooke committed suicide soon after being returned to Earth. Immediately thereafter, the Doctor received a communication from Ood Sigma, but ignored the call and flew off in procrastination. (DW: The Waters of Mars)
  • At some point after 21st November - Yuri Kerenski and Mia Bennett talked to the media about their escape from Mars, which resulted in media attention being given to the Doctor as an almost "mythical" individual. (DW: The Waters of Mars)
