A fusion scoop was a means of accessing power by harvesting the hydrogen from a star's surface. By the 42nd century fusions scoops were illegal. The cargo vessel S.S. Pentallian used a fusion scoop for "cheap fuel". Most of its crew were killed after they used their scoops on Torajii, a sentient star in the Torajii system. (DW: 42)
