Alice Guppy worked for the Torchwood Institute in 1899. She and her fellow worker Emily Holroyd where investigated Jack Harkness because he could not die.They were both responsible for recruiting him, because they perfomed some tests on him that would normally kill him. They said that Torchwood needed him to protect the brittish empire from threat of aliens. (TW:Fragments)
