Joseph Goebbels's children
Joseph and Magda Goebbels had six children together.
Biography[[edit] | [edit source]]
The six children were born to Nazi German Minister of Propaganda Joseph Goebbels and his wife Magda.
Near the end of the Second World War in April 1945, the children were moved into the Berlin Führerbunker by their father. As their parents were devoted Nazis, they believed their family should join Adolf Hitler at the last stand of the Third Reich.
On 29 April, a party was held for them by their parents. Claire Aldwych would later describe this as "one of the most bizarre events in those final surreal days".
Following Hitler's suicide on 30 April, Joseph and Magda would follow his example. The children were murdered by their parents, who would then kill themselves. (PROSE: The Shadow in the Glass [+]Loading...["The Shadow in the Glass (novel)"])
Behind the scenes[[edit] | [edit source]]
The names of the Goebbels children are never stated in The Shadow in the Glass. In the real world, their names were: Helga Susanne, Hildegard Traudel, Helmut Christian, Holdine Kathrin, Hedwig Johanna, and Heidrun Elisabeth.
Although unstated, Magda Goebbels also had another child from a previous marriage, Harald Quandt, who survived the war. He was a member of the prominent Quandt industrial family.
