Protect and Survive was a programme in Great Britain during the 1980s that instructed citizens on what to do in the event of a nuclear war resulting from the Cold War. The information was assembled in pamphlets, but Ace remembered they weren't actually sent out. (AUDIO: Protect and Survive)

In 2007, the Tenth Doctor found a pamphlet version of Protect and Survive, dated to 1980, in the abandoned nuclear bunker at Crediton Vale. It contained advice such as “eat only tinned food", and "if you live in a caravan or other similar accommodation which provides very little protection against fall-out, your local authority will be able to advise you on what to do.” (PROSE: I Am A Dalek)
