- The vastness of the Doctor's TARDIS is described, with mentions of rooms such as the great space laborator, storerooms and "other quarters large enough to accommodate a small army".
- Victoria's method of infiltrating the Cogwen base is inspired by the Trojan War.

- This story is unusual for a story in a Doctor Who Annual, or indeed any story from the 1960s, in that it doesn't feature the Doctor as the main character. Instead, it is entirely told from Victoria's perspective, who drives the plot forward with her own agency as she rescues the Doctor and Jamie from the Cogwens.

- Several Morog athletes are present at the 3999 Galactic Olympics in PROSE: Placebo Effect. Their home planet is spelled "Pindant" rather than Pendant, though.
- TARDIS storerooms were previously mentioned in PROSE: The Devil-Birds of Corbo, The Playthings of Fo and Valley of Dragons.
- The TARDIS laboratory, which is mentioned in this story as a "great space laboratory", first appeared in PROSE: The Monsters from Earth.
