Carthage
Carthage was an ancient city founded on the site which would later become the city of Tunis. (AUDIO: Frostfire)
History[[edit] | [edit source]]
After being joined by Aeneas following the conclusion of the siege of Troy, The surviving Trojans, including Troilus, along with Homer and Cressida left Troy to found a new city. They settled in Carthage, before later moving on to found Rome, (PROSE: The Myth Makers) however by another account, Cressida and Troilus stayed in Carthage, where they still lived in 1164 BC, by which time their two sons were born and had grown up there. (AUDIO: Frostfire)
According to another account, the city of Carthage, which would have become famous in years to come as the enemy of Rome, was founded as a Phoenician colony by Princess Elissa in 814 BC. Elissa offered Ian Chesterton to stay with her as her new husband, but he refused; this would later prove the source of the ancient tale of Dido and Aeneas - when in fact, as the First Doctor said, the actual Aeneas lived three centuries earlier. (AUDIO: The Phoenicians)
According to Procopius, the Battle of Ad Decimum led to the capture of Carthage by the Eastern Roman Empire in the 6th century. (AUDIO: The Secret History)
Later, according to the First Doctor, the city was destroyed by Arabs in the year 648. (PROSE: Doctor Who and the Crusaders)
Behind the scenes[[edit] | [edit source]]
- In real world history, the destruction of Carthage occurred in 698, fifty years later than in the Doctor Who universe.
