Derek Meddings (15 January 1931-10 September 1995[1]) provided special effects or visual effects for the supermarionation television series Supercar, Fireball XL5, Stingray, Thunderbirds, Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons and Joe 90, all of which crossed over with the Doctor Who universe to varying degrees.

His sole credit on a piece of DWU fiction was as the supervising special effects director for the Thunderbirds episode The Man from MI.5, which featured an appearance by the Daleks. He returned to the DWU for the Doctor Who television story Invasion of the Dinosaurs almost a decade later in 1974 as an uncredited visual effects assistant. (INFO: Invasion of the Dinosaurs)

In addition to his contributions to the Gerry Anderson-produced supermarionation series, Meddings also worked on some of Anderson's live-action productions such as UFO and Doppelgänger. Outside of the Anderverse, Meddings worked on Superman, Superman II, Superman III, Supergirl and Batman. He also worked on the final two films in The NeverEnding Story trilogy and multiple James Bond films, beginning with The Man with the Golden Gun in 1974 and concluding with GoldenEye in 1995, which was released posthumously and contained a dediction to Meddings in its credits.
